Kim Tuminaro

Department of State

2019 fellow

Kim Tuminaro is a transformational leader who mobilizes people, ideas and networks to advance U.S. economic interests with the European Union. As Coordinator for the Transatlantic Economic Council at the State Department from 2011-2018, Kim created networks across U.S. and EU federal agencies, regional governments, industry and consumer groups on both sides to advance scientific and pre-regulatory cooperation in emerging sectors such as e-vehicles, health IT, nanotechnology, critical materials, and marine technology. These networks increased opportunities for U.S. jobs and growth within the Transatlantic economy, one of the world’s largest and wealthiest markets, worth $1 trillion in two-way trade and $5.5 trillion in total commercial sales annually.

Kim has 32 years of experience in a variety of international finance and trade positions at the Department of State. She has 32 years of government service at the Department of State including as Special Assistant to the Under Secretary of State for Economics; Senior Economic Officer on the Russia desk, and Deputy Treasury Attache at U.S. Embassy Moscow. Ms. Tuminaro began her career in the Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs focusing on international debt policy and investment policy. She holds an MBA in International Finance and a BA in International Relations from The George Washington University.
