Salim Mawani is a member of Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). As Senior Advisor to the Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Mawani is responsible for providing expert financial management advice, strategic planning and operations support, organizational effectiveness, FMCSA’s policies, and special projects related to the agency’s financial management. He has over 25 years of experience serving both private and public sector organizations. Previously, Mr. Mawani served as the Senior Manager at the Smithsonian Institution leading the Institution’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) transformation and developed internal controls for financial management and complementary processes.
Mr. Mawani also has prior experience as Senior Manager with EY and KPMG serving numerous federal governmental agencies, with stints serving as Vice President with AuditWatch and Manager at the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO). Mr. Mawani graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting, is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the Commonwealth of Virginia and a Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM). Mr. Mawani is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Washington DC Chapter of the Association of Government Accountants (AGA), where he was recently elected to serve as the AGA DC Chapter President. Mr. Mawani’s hobbies include bicycling, vacationing in and around national parks, and watching professional and collegiate football, either from the stands or his comfy couch.
