Mission
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) oversees lawful immigration to the United States. USCIS is responsible for adjudicating more than 32,500 requests each day for various immigration benefits, such as processing applications for naturalization, lawful permanent residence, and humanitarian initiatives. USCIS also verifies employment eligibility for new hires working in the United States, among other services provided.

Increase naturalization for eligible legal permanent residents
Naturalization encompasses all of USCIS’ efforts to reach, promote, facilitate, and operationalize the naturalization of the approximately 9.2 million lawful permanent residents in the U.S. who are eligible to apply. Through targeted outreach and implementation of the Interagency Strategy for Promoting Naturalization, USCIS works to reach underserved and hard-to-reach communities who are eligible to naturalize. Granting U.S. citizenship to eligible lawful permanent residents is vital to our nation’s security, economic prosperity, and a future built on the principles of the U.S. Constitution.
Enable increased self-service through an expansion of digital customer service tools
USCIS is committed to offering digital self-help tools that resolve common customer inquiries at first point of contact, increase transparency, and build trust. Today, customers can use their online account to complete tasks, including personalized experiences offered through account-based services, such as checking the status of their case, viewing upcoming milestones, rescheduling a biometrics appointment, and self-locking their social security number to prevent identity fraud. USCIS intends to build upon these services to expand digital offerings and continue to meet customer needs.
